Strassenfest in Chesterfield is moving back to its summertime roots and will take place along Veterans’ Place Drive adjacent to the recently updated Central Park in the heart of Chesterfield. “The change in season is the result of two years of bad weather in a row, after moving to Chesterfield in 2009” said Doug Littlefield, Executive Vice President of the St. Louis Strassenfest Corporation. The annual street festival will also be moving off the Chesterfield Parkway and onto the new Veterans’ Place Drive in downtown Chesterfield, allowing for logistical efficiencies, including the new Chesterfield Amphitheater and allowing the very busy Chesterfield Parkway to remain open. “Another reason for moving Strassenfest to the early summer is because of the heavy competition from so many other activities during the fall, including several German Oktoberfest celebrations,” stated Littlefield. The City of Chesterfield’s grand opening for the new park and amphitheater, Celebrate Central Park, is scheduled for May 21 and will feature a full day of events, activities, performances, local and national music acts, as well a variety of food. “Since the Strassenfest Board has decided to hold the festival before the 4th of July holiday and the City is having a grand opening within a few weeks of our target event date, we have decided to wait until 2012 to hold the next festival,” said Littlefield. However, Strassenfest will have a presence at the Celebrate Central Park event serving traditional German food, including potato pancakes. The City’s event is alcohol free, so Strassenfest will only be serving food. “We feel that this provides our organization with continuity in 2011 without competing with the City of Chesterfield’s Celebrate Central Park event and 4th of July activities” said Strassenfest Board President, Patrick Worzer. Strassenfest plans to be back with a full blown event in early summer of 2012 and will be working with the City to finalize a date within the next three months, which will allow a full year for planning.
